Farm holidays in Switzerland
Between lakes, lush green meadows, massive mountains and forests you will find your dream holiday on a farm in Switzerland. On this page we will show you a selection of great farms. Here you can follow farm life up close and let yourself be pampered by the warm hosts and farm owners.
Experience the diversity in this farming region
The Swiss Confederation consists of 26 cantons; there is no traditional capital (although Bern is usually mentioned as the seat of the government). The areas are varied, even though Switzerland is known for the main Alpine ridge and the high mountains. But from Lake Constance to Lake Geneva, via Lake Neuchâtel to Lake Maggiore, there is more than “just” mountains to discover.
Bernese Oberland:
In the heart of Switzerland, the Bernese Oberland with its impressive mountain scenery invites you to an unforgettable farm holiday. Here, the iconic peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are the inspiration for adventure – be it hiking, skiing or visiting the Jungfraujoch station, the “Top of Europe”. Traditional alpine huts and charming farms offer a homely atmosphere and breathtaking views.
Valais:
Sun-drenched Valais with its terraced vineyards and the highest concentration of four-thousanders in the Alps is a paradise for nature lovers and gourmets. Visit authentic farms surrounded by orchards and vineyards and enjoy Valais specialties such as raclette and apricots. Activities such as visits to thermal baths or glacier tours make Valais a place of diversity and relaxation.
Lake Geneva area:
The Lake Geneva region, known for its elegant culture and exquisite cuisine, offers not only urban flair but also picturesque farms in the surrounding area. Experience the interplay of nature and culture by exploring the vineyards of Lavaux or strolling through the historic streets of Montreux and Lausanne. The proximity to the water ensures a mild climate and a variety of leisure opportunities.
Ticino:
Ticino, Switzerland's Mediterranean soul place, enchants with its Italian charm, palm trees and clear lakes. Here you can stay on a farm that combines traditional Ticino architecture with modern comfort. Discover the art and culture in the cities of Lugano and Locarno or relax on the shores of Lake Maggiore.
Graubünden:
Graubünden, the land of 150 valleys, is known for its spectacular landscapes and traditional farms. A stay here promises pure nature experiences in the Swiss national park or in the winter sports resorts such as St. Moritz. Those interested in culture can discover the Romance language and culture or follow in the footsteps of the “Magic Mountain” in Davos.
Where hearty meets delicate
The Swiss are known for their culinary specialties. No matter whether it's cheese variations in perfection or the finest chocolate, nothing works without the hard-working farmers. On your holiday on a farm you can enjoy the origins of this cuisine. Dairy products such as cheese or yoghurt, homemade jams and juices, rösti or fondue, ... there is something for every taste here. If you're spending your holidays on a Swiss farm, don't miss out on these highlights:
Watch and taste cheese production:
Switzerland is world famous for its variety of cheeses. On a farm, visitors can often directly experience how cheese is traditionally made - from the fresh milk input to the maturing process. A highlight is the tasting of fresh, handmade cheese directly from the farm dairy, including specialties such as Emmentaler, Gruyère and the varieties typical of the Appenzellerland.
Alpine departure and descent:
A unique experience is the Alpabzug (also called Alpabfahrt), the festival at which the cows return to the valley after a summer on the alpine meadows. This event is often accompanied by a farmers' market offering local produce and is celebrated with music, traditional costumes and a variety of local dishes.
Farm brunch or farm breakfast:
A traditional Swiss farmer's brunch or "Hof-Zmorge" is a sumptuous breakfast experience that many farms offer. Here you can enjoy a variety of fresh farm products, such as freshly baked bread, plaits, homemade jams, fresh milk and yoghurt, eggs from the farm's chickens and a selection of sausages and meat products from our own production.
Rest for the soul
In addition to the diverse activities and the occasional gluttony , relaxation is the top priority on a Swiss farm. Enjoy the silence of nature, relax with a book in the sun or spend cozy evenings in front of the fireplace.
